KDDI America launches KDDI US Powered Ethernet, offering hyper-speed Ethernet connectivity to American businesses, nationwide
New York, NY, February 17, 2009 - KDDI America, Inc., the U.S. division of KDDI Corporation, a Global Fortune 500 company and worldwide leader in international telecommunications services, system integration and network solutions, data center services and facilities, recently announced plans to debut KDDI US Powered Ethernet network, which provides high-speed, scalable Ethernet connectivity to businesses operating throughout the United States beginning in major U.S. cities on February 17th, 2009 with rapid expansion of the service throughout the country over the next few months.
Through KDDI US Powered Ethernet, KDDI America provides corporations throughout the United States with high-bandwidth connectivity between their offices and data centers, in addition to providing the flexibility of using real, any-to-any Ethernet connections. KDDI America also ensures scalable, multi-megabit bandwidth options – anywhere from 1Mbps to 10Gbps – while providing an alternative to the incumbent carrier’s offerings, ensuring true diversity and competitive differentiation.
KDDI is a widely recognized global leader in the development and provisioning of Ethernet services, most notably in Japan--where the domestic service is award-winning* and possesses the largest market share*--and throughout the wider Asia-Pacific region, where its network provides service all the way to the United States (with points of presence in New York and Los Angeles). The outstanding performance of the service (with actual availability of over 99.999%) prompted a large number of US corporations already using KDDI's Ethernet connectivity internationally to request service of similar high-quality in the States. Through KDDI US Powered Ethernet, KDDI America is now able to seamlessly fulfill those needs.
KDDI America is vastly expanding its presence in the United States by installing its own Layer 2 (Ethernet) switches in key data centers around the country. Through partnerships with several local and regional Ethernet and dark-fiber providers, KDDI America can enable redundant connectivity to customer sites nationwide. At the same time, KDDI America will add the ability to proactively monitor the Ethernet network through to the customer sites.
"While Ethernet is the technology of choice for many corporations because of its flexibility, major telecommunications providers in the United States have found it difficult to offer due to large investments in legacy technology", said Emiko Komatsu, KDDI America's Marketing Manager. "By rolling out our Ethernet network service in the U.S. and seamlessly integrating it into our existing global network, KDDI America can meet the needs of U.S. corporations looking to connect their sites, wherever they may be, over a single Ethernet cloud."
